Fulham star Raúl Jiménez could have been one of the best strikers in the world if he hadn’t suffered his fractured skull while playing for Wolves.
That’s according to fellow Mexican Carlos Salcido, via Record, who is full of praise for the Fulham striker today as he resurgence continues.
Jiménez spent over eighth months out of action after fracturing his skull in a collision with Arsenal defender David Luiz in 2020.
There were concerns that would bring an end to his career, with doctors advising him to retire after the injury, but the Mexican instead decided to continue.
He initially struggled to get back to his best at Wolves, particularly as he adapted to wearing a new protective head brace but has since bounced back at Fulham since joining in a €6.4m deal in July 2023.
He’s now a key player for Marco Silva’s side and has managed 18 goals and two assists in 56 games for them so far, as well as making a glorious return to the Mexican national team.
It’s been an impressive recovery from what had been a career threatening, indeed life-threatening injury, and Salcido believes he deserves all the praise possible.
“I am very pleased after everything he had, now he is going very well and everything, is where you grab to think, what if that had not happened to him?” he said in an interview with David Faitelson.
“The great player in history, as he was on the rise, would have been in one of the great teams. Of course, play in the Premier, forget, he’s top.
“He’s much better, every game you are the victim and suddenly you do excellent things or that you stand out against big teams, that also gives you the quality of player that he is.
“That’s where you have to put the eye and wow, the things he is doing with this team that is in the Premier League, that he stands out is wow.”
