Club unlikely to challenge Fulham transfer stance on deadline day – President appears to have given up

Palmeiras are unlikely to be making a deadline day effort to lure Andreas Pereira from Fulham, with pessimism now reigning over the prospect of them signing the midfielder.

That’s according to UOL, who cover the situation today and how there is unlikely to be any deadline day effort from the Brazilian side.

They report that while Palmeiras have been looking to sign the player for about a month, there is no need for them to rush today as that is only the European transfer deadline. The Brazilians still have until February 28th to register new players anyway.

Of course, Fulham would be against that as they’d have no chance to find or add a replacement to their squad.

Palmeiras president Leila Pereira is pessimistic about the chances of it happening and has admitted as much publically.

“I’m not considering Andreas anymore. There were indeed talks with the athlete, with the English club, but they didn’t work out. […] The doors aren’t closed, but we’re working with what we’ve already signed,” she is quoted as saying to TNT Sports.

The big stumbling block is that Fulham seem unwilling to negotiate for the midfielder. They continue to see him as a first-team player and key to Marco Silva’s plans.

Pereira will not force a departure either. According to journalists Bruno Andrade and André Hernan, he is happy to return to Brazil but won’t push for negotiations. The latter has also stated that Pereira has refused a contract renewal at Craven Cottage.

Thus, matters are at a standstill and there is little chance of that changing on deadline day, despite Palmeiras chasing the Fulham man for well over a month.
